So the other day i actually had some free time and sat down to write a real blog post! Then i went to upload pictures and realized i left my camera cable in my 3D Studio for the project i was working on. Oy. But, I feel like something needs to be said, so heres a real quick update before i collapse in my bed.

-I have many photos of 3D projects to put up.
-I just finished a pretty badass noise device project. Photos too
-So many noise diaries edited now. So many.
-Holy shit only three weeks left of school!
-In case you guys dont know, I'm driving home this summer with Guy. That's exciting
-I have a paper due friday that ive known about all semester and still havent started. Despite what i keep telling myself.

Okay i think i should stop now because anson is started to do that grunting thing in bed where he gets frustrated because im making too much noise with the clickytyclakcy of my fingers on plastic. or maybe the bright of the screen. OH GOD HES WATCHING ME NOW, WHAT

Noise Diaries #12

My $10 keyboard came in the mail today. I love the 80s. I have a whole bunch of other stuff to upload, but thought id put this one up today because its so different. Since no one really bothers with my noise ones, try this one. This should feed right into the hipster breakfast bowl of music. It's something you will probably actually not cringe at. Don't get used to this. Life update coming soon.

Noise Diaries #11

Another noise diary, from february 22. This was a pretty unique one, something i still want to pursue more (but haven't gotten around to). Drums make life more fun. Take a trip to the Southern Hemisphere.

Also, I've gone with a new method for my noise diaries. Since none of them are single songs anymore and theyre all multi-track .rar files, which everyone is too lazy to download and be bothered with, I'm going to upload the whole set onto Muxtape where you can listen to it, then use zshare if you want to download it for future use. I dont know. Do whatever. I think only like 2 people listen to them anyways. FWAPMP.

Tragic

I just visited the website of the community paper that i used to do graphic work for (covers, ads and whatnot). Sometime inbetween now and my departure last fall they have decided to use Comic Sans on the cover. ON THE COVER. my god, someone get over there and help them, please, because it's too late for me.

I'm going to try to do more mini-updates more often. Before I go to bed most likely. My roommate is always asleep by 11:30 anyways, so theres not much else to do. Floooooommp.

Spring Break and Before

So, to explain where I've been for the past two weeks, I had a visitor. Yes, the one and only Rachel Birke came to the smallest state in the US. Not only did her trip involve a stay in a luxurious dorm room, featuring tiny beds and communal showers, but it also included a grand tour of RISD and the best of Rhode Island (even Newport!)from yours truly. There was much eating, much walking, and many a shows to go to. Amazing shows. Her timing was quite premium for the shows.
Arrival: Rachel Birke, Rhode Island

We traveled to Boston and stood freezing in the cold, and visited the Disneyland of food courts. Rachel got to see Boys Town II, something most RISD kids havent even seen. She got to see the Thunderdome, which will soon be celebrating its one year anniversary as a new underground experimental venue (basement). Due to the extreme requests of Rachel and Lily, we even dyed Easter Eggs (photos will ensue). It smelled silly.

Then we were off to New York, where we found the most delicious fried potatoes ever, giant comic book stores, and faux punk clothing stores. And cream puffs made by asians. And our legs died. Soon, it was unfortunately time for Rachel to leave, and she set home for LA on Tuesday. That very same day my sister arrived on a Peter Pan bus from New York city. We went to Boston, visiting the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, bought more old clothes, and ate more ridiculous food. Every attempt to get crepes in Providence was met with defeat. More sandwiches were eaten though, which makes me happy. My sister then went on her way back to New York, and Thursday night I spent my first night by myself in a long time (Anson (my roommate you sillies) was off in Florida).

It was nice, and quiet. Although I did miss the company of Rachel and my sister. The next days were spent avoiding homework and recording noise diaries, which will follow in the future. Lots of noise diaries. Saturday I went to Boston once again to see the Boredoms, which was fairly epic. Three drumsets, a seven neck guitar, and Yamatsuka Eye, a god of noise. I caught a 2:15 am Greyhound back and today did my first real bit of homework all break, and voila here I am. Pictures follow, in an attempted chronological order of sorts. Its just a highlight, full sets will be available upon request or on here when I stop being so lazy.

Destination 1: Boston

Destination 2: Milkshakes

Destination 3: Eggs

Destination 4: Newport

Destination 5: New York, elicious fried objects

A FUCKING T-REX

Destination 6: Home

The last black cowboy in Boston

So the past two weeks Rachel was here, and the few days my sister stayed with me have been amazing. It was great to see some familiar faces. If anyone ever happens to be on the east coast and wants to have their own free stay in a luxurious dorm with communal bathroom, just give me a hollar. I'd be glad to have you. Plus, it will just give me another reason to go down to the Jolly Roger. Oh god.

P.S.
Theres a new noise diary below this that like two people have downloaded. Get on that, fools.

Noise Diaries #10

While i still settle down before i start explainin about whats been goin down the past 2.5 weeks, heres a noise diary from february to spare me some time. Five tracks and 20 minutes long, starts off with some sort-of-harsh noise, then finishes with drone. All in a rar file. Tell me if any of you manage to get all the way through it.

Also, ignore the button-pushing. I need to stop recording with a cassette player that close to my work. You're also missing out on all the highs when you record with a cassette player. GUH

Noise Diaries #9

Another one back from January. This was done live in the Tap Room with Derrick. It was impromptu and made up on the spot, and i know theres a few awkward moments, but i figure its worth a listen. Id like to pursue some of it in the future with a real song. It's a 3 track group that comes in at 12 minutes total. A bit of opening noise, some electro dance whatever, then some drone. Sweet.

Noise Diaries #8

God, I cant believe im this far behind. This is the second one i did this year. I was still in my black dice phase. this is the last multitrack one ive done, and probably one of the last. im trying to stop recording things that require post production and more than one person, because i haven't learned how to clone myself yet. Thats for another day.

Second Semester

I figure i havent done a general update in a while, so ill catch you all up to speed. Second semester has started! Wintersession ended, which means my breezy weeks with only two classes has come to an end (speaking of which, film uploads are on their way). Along with that is a massive amount of noise diaries to upload. But now its second semester. Schedule is as follows:

Monday:
Drawing, Brice Hobbs
8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Drawing is okay. My teacher is ancient. Like, old. Really old. He started the bike drawing at RISD. I dig his philosophies, he's into feeling art and whatnot. I think if he were part of our generation he'd totally be into the experimental music scene. But in his old age, he is quite forgetful, which gets frustrating. He's already told us the same stories several times, and expects a laugh each time at the end. He's asked me what my major is four times over two classes. We're going to get into gestures, do lots of life drawing, and learn how to see the energy of everything and whatnot.

Tuesday:
Pre-Columbian History,
Elisabeth Bonnier
09:40 am - 11:10 am
This class is really good, especially considering that it's an art history class. Our teacher is nice, seems fairly laidback, and to top it all off, has a french accent. The reading doesnt seem to bad, and the subject matter is interesting, so im very content with this class. Heck, one could say im even excited for our ensuing Inca and Mayan adventures.

Informal Logic,
James Yess
01:10 pm - 02:40 pm
My God. When we had to sign up for classes, i got the last sign up section. So for a liberal arts choice i was basically stuck with either informal logic or something about the quest for knowledge. While i do love quests, as well as knowledge, the class description said something about many many papers, so i decided to go with informal logic. After arriving to class the first day expecting to spend the next three months in a dry, soul sucking class, i quickly changed my mind. All we do is argue for 90 minutes then leave. It was the first class ive had since i can remember where it was over before i knew it. No real homework either. The teacher is decent--sometimes it seems like he doesnt really know what he's saying, but he's cool in my book. reminds me of our old rostami days.

Wednesday
3D Design, Christina Bertoni
08:00 am - 04:30 pm
3D Design. Basically a class to explore the three dimensional realm; id say its pretty self explanitory. Our teacher is really down to Earth, and likes taking us on long walks just so we can clear our mind. And she decided that 8:00 was a godforsaken hour that no one should be up at, and moved the class back to 8:30 (hallelujah). Her taste is okay, i dont think she and i really jive in that sense, but thats okay. Her assignments are completely open to anything--like, anything. It's a freedom im not used to, and to be honest, its quite intimidating.

Thursday
2D Design, Charlie Clough
08:00 am - 05:00 pm
This course is the same as 3D Design, but flat on paper. You know. Our teacher is so quirky. One could even say adorable, hes amazingly nice. Even though when i first saw his picture i was afraid he was going to be on of those insane teachers. But he's already laid out the course, basically we're going to recreate six historical paintings and then make a book out of all of the classes work. We're documenting it, and he said something about making a movie (dont ask me). That sounds pretty cool. But i really dont care, he already made me completely happy as soon as he said "i disagree with homework--i dont think we should have any." Compared to my 2D teacher last year, who took many a nights sleep from me, this is very very good news. Sweet.

Friday
Same as Tuesday, all over again.

So those are my classes. Christ, this post is getting long. I suppose i really should update my life happenings more, so i dont have these novel-length posts coming out every so often. We declare majors this week, and i think ive finally settled on FAV (film/animation/video), a major i wasnt even considering when i first came to RISD. I suppose what changed my mind was that i wanted to be able to use sound in my work. And with Film/Animation, you really need access to equipment in order to learn it. Ilustration or sculpture (which i was kind of stuck between) or some other major of the sort is something that if youre determined enough you can really learn on your own. But with FAV you really need the equipment and technical knowledge, so i think this is my best bet.

Housing numbers! Each freshman gets a number, 1-500 or something, and it determines the number in which they get to choose where they live next year (1 goes first and so-on). I hadn't even really thought about it, and has really thought id just leave it up to my roommates to get the high number for lottery. So when i checked my email on lottery day, the last thing i expected to see was 1. I actually predicted i would get 293 in my head. But no, there it was. Number one. So, ive become a sort of small legend in the past week, with whispers of my name going through the halls--"Did you hear who got number one?" So i guess thats pretty cool. I feel like ive wasted all of my accumulated luck on this though, and its completely unnecessary for me to have number one. Oh well, ill enjoy it while i can.

I guess that's all thats major for now. I have like a bajillion photos to upload. and music. hrmrdklgmggaffdg

Noise Diaries #7

I decided to forget the whole chronological thing with my noise diaries. I have things that i get excited about, but by the time i get to them ive already gotten over them. So i'm just going to post them as im feelin them. This one is really more of a sample clip. But i have a long noise-drone one (5 tracks, 20 minutes) similar to this (almost, not really) that I'm going to upload in a day or so. Just let this whet your appetite. It's pure, harsh noise. I also have to upload my films, its just when i recorded them i did it at too high quality so youtube won't accept it, so i just need to size it down then that shit will be interneted.

Film Explorations

Looking at my New Years Resolutions, I realized i havent really been keeping to them too well. especially that whole "artwork" thing. well i'm still not in the mood (read: lazy) to upload drawings, but i do have some photos from the film shoot i just did.

Oh, in case you all didn't 't know let me explain RISD's Wintersession. It's like an eight week mini-semester where you only take two classes, so it's really laid-back. You can take whatever you like. I'm taking a class on Illuminated Manuscripts (getting a liberal arts out of the way) and a studio class called Film Explorations, where we work with 16 mm film and do short studies. Anyways, these are from out second project, which really had no guidelines other than to use two rolls of film (like 5 minutes) and do something. Suite.

♬ Noise Diaries 2007-0011-0028 (Maybe Edit)

Ah, finally i get to put this one up. If you've heard any older diaries, this is completely different. In fact, i wouldn't even call it noise. Because it isn't. It's post-rock. I worked on it for Lei, who gets all the writing credit for the original piano piece. Personally, I enjoy the build. Mmm. Thank Lei for it this sexy little audio file.

Pt. II

So a new year. A new semester. I'm back at RISD, and want to thank everyone back home for making my break so wonderful. I love RISD so much, but it really was hard to come back here. There were however several things that I didn't get to do while I was home, and I'm very angry at myself for them. They are:
-See Collie. Play boardgames.

-See bearded Chris. Play videogames, eat unhealthy foods. Watch a movie.

-Make music with Lei.
So fuck me for that. But oh boy will I get these things done in May. Just you wait and see. Anyways, I also have a few New Years resolutions. I never make them, because I've never really felt the need. But hey, I know a few areas I can improve on, so here we go:
1. Write more letters, more often. Send them!
If anyone wants a letter, piece of art, or random scrap of my life, simply message me your address. I don't care if I don't even know you/like you. (bambooismurder@gmail.com)

2. Update my blog with more artwork.
This one probably won't happen. But I'll try, I'm getting better at it. Plus, I finally have pictures of all this stuff from last semester to put up.

3. Get shit done
You know what I'm talkin about

That's it. Let's see how well I actually do. It's late, and I need me some sleep. First day of class tomorrow! afsdhfgadfg. Seriously, thank you guys, I couldn't have asked for a more amazing break (minus above cases).
