Birthday Mochi
So my sister's boyfriend is a half-blood as well, although his family is legit Japanese-cultured (i believe his parents are both professors in Japanese at universities). So his mother (the Japanese one of the two) made my parents some fresh mochi for their birthdays. At least I think it was for their birthdays. It was for some special occasion. The point is, we had fresh homemade mochi that was handmade that morning. They even made the box and packaging and everything. My sister calls them a super family, because they're supposed to be pretty amazing. I think she's right.

RISD 2008
I've been back at RISD for a while now, and ive been about doing various things here and there. But as an official (late) start off of the school year, here's my current schedule. For those of you that haven't asked yet, I declared Film/Animation/Video as my major. We'll see how it goes, I have mixed feelings.
Monday:
TIME, LIGHT AND SOUND with Burleigh Smith
7:00pm-10:00pm
Tuesday:
HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY with Sarah Taylor
11:20am-12:50pm
INTRO TO ANIMATION with Agnieszka Woznicka
1:10pm-6:10pm
Wednesday:
STOP MOTION ANIMATION with Agnieszka Woznicka
11:20am-4:20pm
Thurday:
HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY with Sarah Taylor
11:20am-12:50pm
INRODUCTORY FILM with Peter O'Neill
1:10pm-6:10pm
Friday:
FREE DAY SUCKA
So, compared to last year, I have a pretty laid back schedule. And so far, FAV is pretty light in the work department, so I've had a bit of free time. Which is nice, but odd. It's especially odd after last year. I'll have some (moving) work up soon, as well as more RISD thoughts. And Disneyworld!

Coming Home Pt.II: Now With 50% More Mountains
So I left off the last blog in Kansas. Basically everything else in Kansas looked like this:

Oh yeah, they also have Dinosaur gasoline in Kansas, which i thought was pretty cool. It actually started to rain ridiculously hard while we were passing through. So hard we had to wait it out at a gas station for a while while it settled down. Luckily guy decided to buy those new windshield wipers, or we would have been stranded. And there were TORNADOES coming. We just missed them by a few hours though, and then we were out of kansas.
Introducing: Colorado
There were more plains in colorado.
There were other cars, too.
They even have a Purina Puppy Chow factory.
We eventually reached the mountains, which had adorable little mountain towns that looked like something out of Disneyland. A much appreciated change from all of the flat lands we'd been driving through.

Of course, where there are mountains there is rain. And lots of tunnels too.

Eventually we reached the middle of the mountains, where we decided to stop for lunch at this wonderful place called Q4U BBQ. It was one of the only places open, due to the holiday weekend--it must have been fate that led us there. While we were waiting for our food I took a picture of Guy and Guy took a picture of me. He stole my color for some reason. I think this is the only existing picture of me to prove i was on this trip.

I had a BBQ Beef sandwich with french fries and a coke. It was one of the better meals I've had this year. Guy had the BBQ turkey. He also got some homemade beef jerky they had sitting in a jar on the counter, which was totally rad.
You were required to pass through a roundabout to get back on the highway. There was a moose statue in the middle of it.
And then we were on our way down the mountains.
We eventually reached these sweet rocks that looked like something out of Grand Turismo 4. But it was better, because it was in real life.

There was even an old-timey train passing along the mountain path, which was made along a river. It was the perfect setting for a train robbery to take place.
We stopped to get gas at a station that had this sculpture sitting outside in the back by an ice machine. I thought it was marvelous.

There was this tiny little mining-looking town on the bank of the river. Complete with its own dam.

We eventually escaped the mountains. This is the ass-view of the mountains.

And then we left colorful colorado. Ignore me.
Then lots of shit happened in Utah, but I dont really have any pictures. There was a pretty sunset though.
We stayed at a little motel in some town whose name i cant remember, but there was this amazing antiquey store on the way there that had this outside.
Then Nevada. You know, I've never really ever thought of deserts as pretty things. Nor have I ever thought that I would have seen one and been like "wow." However, I have to say, damn, Nevada is really pretty. I can see why the Indians liked it so much out there.
Somewhere along the highway in Nevada we stopped in Los Vegas and visited Guy's cousin (?). He has a very nice house. We then worked our way down to the strip and took a break from driving and actually walked around a bit. It was my first time in Vegas. It seemed like a Disneyland for adults. And God, it was ridiculously hot. We mostly walked around casinos and looked at stuff. I got a drink at one point because I was feeling dehydrated. We visited an arcade, played In the Groove. After considering spending the night, we decided to cut town and keep driving. Photos of this part of the trip exist somewhere, but not on my camera. We cut the corner of Arizona.
This was about all we saw.
After that it was just a quick drive through CA before we were home in LA. And i slept in my sweet, sweet bed, whom I had missed dearly.
So that was the drive back home, and now that I've gotten this out of the way, I can get on with my life of RISD posts. Oh, and DISNEYWORLD.

Coming Home Pt. I
It's funny, how now that I'm returning to RISD I finally get to writing about my trip home. It's mostly because I haven't had my memory card, which I just recently obtained. But before we get to the drive back, let's go back to RISD. I just developed a roll of film that still had photos from RISD on it, which is always a pleasant surprise. Featuring Joseph, Alex, and Maddie.

Then, my room. That shit was messy.

And, after not sleeping, I finally finished. You can see the transition from day to night to day in the photos. Off to the airport. I got to Providence's tiny little airport, then transferred to another state. It's funny, it's actually been so long I can't remember what airport it was. All i know is that they had a FUCKIN MONORAIL
By this time it was dinner. I had a poorly made pizza that I was not very happy with. I mean, it was okay. But not good. However, the post-pizza dessert i found made up for it. It was a Milky Way drink or some other sort of chocolate-bar themed drink. I enjoyed that, while some I watched some Asian people across from me settle down and look for food.

I get to Indiana, where Guy picks me up. Get all my shit in his car, and we're off. I spent the night at his Frat house, which reminded me of all those great music venues ("venues") in RI. I slept under a bed or something. But more importantly, before that, we stopped to get Arby's. I don't know if you've even been to an Arby's in the middle of America at night, but my god. The people there. There was a large woman playing Magic with some kid. Next to them were two older men playing Magic. I guess it was like a thing they do. The two men were arguing about how the other had played in a previous match, and that they should have done better. They must have been a team. Besides the Magic players, there were lots of large, strange people. I would have taken a picture if I didn't fear for my life. Outside of the Arby's/Gas Station (they were connected) was this:
They had a buy one get one free sale going on. So we headed over to guys frat house, i met the guys (who seemed like a lovely bunch), then we went to bed. We headed out early the next morning, but before we headed out we had to get Guy's car checked, and he needed new winshield wippers. It turns out, Guy's tires were on their last string and COULD GO AT ANY MINUTE. The mechanic said we'd never make it to LA. Well, us being the thrill-seekers we are, we just laughed in the face of danger and said "NEW TIRES? WE DONT NEED NO NEW TIRES." Well actually, apparently Guy's G35 uses fancy tires that are impossible to find, and we couldn't get them anywhere. Not even Wallmart. Since it was a holiday weekend and everything was closed, and we didn't have time to wait, we'd just start heading out and figured we'd get them eventually in some major city along the way (yeah, right). But while we were at Wallmart, we did buy a case of Gatorade and Chez-Its. But most importantly that morning, before we left, we stopped here:
SQUARE DONUTS. And yes, they were square.
I got my favorite, the pink-flavored donut, and some milk. It was quite the delicious breakfast, and still lives in my memory. I wish I had a picture of the non-bar ones, because those were actually squares rather than just rectangles. Anyways, so we headed out.

There were lots of plains. Eventually, the plains stopped and we reached a river. The Mississippi. This is guy driving over the Mississippi:
And this is the Mississippi. It wasn't quite as epic as I expected. Maybe we were too far north.
Then, all of a sudden: MORE PLAINS

Eventually, we had to fill up for gas. My least favorite part of the trip. BUT, we had also reached Kansas City. And with it, Kansas. We had a debate on whether Kansas City was in Missouri or Kansas. Turns out it's Missouri. Although, it's literally on the border, so who would know?

Kansas city actually looked quite a bit like Providence to me. Although we didn't really go inside, we just mostly drove around it. Then, we were in Kansas, where there were super-plains resting under rainclouds.

At this point we had five (technically six) more states to cross, three under our belt. I'm going to stop here because this post is getting ridiculously long, and all these food pictures are making me hungry. Plus, this is the end of the first memory card of photos. More open road coming up, featuring: Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, and just a dash of Arizona.

There were a lot of plains in Indiana. There was also a lot of nothing. Luckily, one of Guy's Fratmate's mother (?) made him some brownies the night before. But not just your standard brownies--CARAMEL NUT DELICIOUS BROWNIES.
