Today

I woke up, with the casualness of one who is done with final exams, and looked out my window to see this:

As the day went on, the snow grew. We're supposed to get a foot or so. Many flights were delayed. Ahh. More pictures follow.

The Lowdown: 3D Design

Okay, so we're on the last week of the semester and I've only gone over one class. with one update. i know. but, alas, here's introducing 3D Design. Like 2D design, we deal with aesthetic decisions, only in this class instead of a 2D plane it's three dimensional (pretty simple, huh?). Basically, my teacher:

(and i mean that in the nicest way possible, i absolutely love this teacher. there are just some visual similarities, what can i say). Her name is Wendy Seller. She's really nice, and a good teacher. So far this year, we've started off with 3D self portraits (done out of chipboard), abstract clay pieces, another self portrait, an assignment dealing with planes and lines, and now we've been working on our final project for the past two weeks (a wearable piece drawing inspiration from another sculpture and piece of architecture). I have to present to you the planes and lines assignment (which I believe was my teachers favorite of mine). I'm putting that assignment up because she photographed it (the main obstacle in my procrastination of putting up work).

Oh god, theres such a horror story behind this piece. I spent the usual amount of time on it about, working late into the night, yada yada, and my teacher really liked it. That day during class we were at the library and she mentioned to me "Oh, i really liked your piece, make sure nothing happens to it so we can at least photograph it or use it for the show later." I'm like "psh, nothing ever happens to my pieces, piece of cake."

When we get back to class, the first thing i do is take out a piece of paper, which, with the slightest breeze tilts my piece and rolls it off the table. I hear it explode, and look over to see a collection of single sticks sitting on the floor. It was cursed from the moment my teacher opened her mouth. and of course, when i finished the night before, i thought to myself "should i take a picture? Nah, my teacehr will take a better one." Wonderful.

But, with pure will and determination, i was able to use the old glue marks and my handy ol memory to slowly piece it back together. it just wasnt fun. fuck.

Well, in the end my teacher said it was worth it, because she adores it. So, yeah. I don't know what else to say about it. It's an abstract piece dealing with planes and lines and it used one color. I'll try to get some more stuff from 3D up. you'll definitely at least see the final. Also, my drawing final + critique is on Friday, where I'll be putting up all of my (decent) work from the year on a wall. I'll try to get pictures, because i like the work i do in drawing. for the most part.
